Wash and work out?
Dec 17th, 2007 at 8:14pm

I have a bit of a dilemma.  I work out just about every day, and I sweat a LOT.  I definitely want to wait as long as possible b/w washes but I'm scared that my hair will stink like sweat if I don't.  Plus, my scalp has a tendency to get flat and oily if I don't wash it often, while my length and ends are generally dry.  Right now, I wash with shampoo every other day (on my roots only) and the days I don't wash I rinse w/warm water and massage my scalp.  Is wetting the hair every day bad?  Does anyone else have this problem?  I don't want to give up my daily workouts OR the health of my hair.  Please help!! Undecided

Heya, MTB

Rinsing your hair is not bad for it. Actually, washing isn't either so long as you're using a shampoo that doesn't kill your hair. Have you tried doing CWC's or COW's? They might be useful for your routine.

I usually exercise every other day, but I wash the top half of my hair every day, whether I work out or not. If your hair is very dry or curly, you should probably just stick to WOW's (water only) or COW's (conditioner only). HTH  Smiley

Rinsing your hair with water is not a bad thing.  During the summer when I bike every day, I rinse my hair with water to keep it fresh.  Angel Spun's suggestion of using conditioner is also a good one.  When using a conditioner to cleanse - a "thin" conditioner works best.  You might even try watering out your favorite conditioner to use this way.

Thanks for the advice! I'm really scared to try cleaning my hair with just conditioner because I've always been told never to put it on your scalp.  Plus my scalp gets really oily quickly.  But I guess I can give it a try or just keep rinsing it! Thanks!
