Had to retrieve a mouse from my shower yesterday morning after the cat chased him in there and wouldn't chase him out. So I put on 2 pairs of gloves, picked him up and put him outside.

It must have been terrified.  Mice are usually super fast, I can't believe you were able to catch it by hand. Shocked

Tanai: They don't even start to mellow out until they're about a year and a half. But you wouldn't believe how high this dog jumps. She should do hurtles. Grin

La Diosa: Believe it or not, the mouse crawled right into my hand and tried to run up my arm! Grin I'm sure it was more than relieved to get back outside.

Hair: Did an overnight heavy EVOO treatment last night, then clarified when I got up this morning. I used Herbal Essences clarifying shampoo instead of Pantene. Once every week or two isn't going to kill me. Roll Eyes
After sending my 1L Fiji bottle through the dishwasher a few weeks ago, it came out all wonky Undecided so today I'm replacing it with a brand new 1L Evian bottle. There's a wavy line at the bottom to help indicate how much ACV to pour in.

Anyway, today's only leave-in was Pantene Detangling spray. My hair felt a bit gummy after it dried, but I was going to braid it anyway.

Music: Our rhythm guitarist couldn't make it tonight, so there was no practice. After returning home from a mild shopping spree, I found my father's old bass player from years ago sitting on our couch, visiting with my mother. I gave him a hug and addressed him as an uncle, like I always had. There's been talk of bringing him back into my father's band.

Other Stuff: Got to meet a co-worker's wife and daughter in the parking lot after hours. Beautiful family, and they couldn't be better people. Smiley

Also sent out another rez this evening. We'll see what happens there.

Is this the guy you thought wasn't right for the band some time ago?  Just curious.

Was catching up on your journal and noticed your comments on earrings.  You are probably nickel-allergic.  If you are having problems with reactions to metal, try wearing wires rather than posts.  You get more air circulation and less accumulation of skin oils, cosmetics, etc., which can cause irritation.  You can also try dipping the posts in cortisone cream before inserting them.  That will usually get you thru an evening.  You might also check the earring backs  for a metal stamp; if they are stainless or sterling, they should have a stamp saying so. Sterling is stamped 925, and I'm not sure what the stainless stamp is.  If there is no stamp, they might be base metal.

Stainless steel does not usually cause problems; it's more likely to be the solder that joins the post to the stud.  If you were having earrings made, you could specify low-cadmium solder.

Most silver contains nickel to harden it as pure silver is a very soft metal.  Sterling contains less nickel, but does have it.  If you have problems with silver studs, spend the money and get gold.  BTW, most white gold also contains nickel.  All gold will be stamped: 10K, 14K, 18K, are usually what is sold here in the US.  The higher the number, the purer the metal.

I used to work for a fine jeweler and am highly allergic to nickel, so have learned some tricks over the years.  Hope this info helps.

Drear: No, this is a different guy. The original bassist for the band, actually. He left several years ago, but has agreed to do an accoustic show this weekend with my dad and a few others.

Melusine: Nope, no nickel allergies. The majority of earrings that were bothering me were the nickel-free "sensitive solutions" kind. They are made from very low quality surgical steel, which irritates any skin type.

And yes, honey, I know how most jewelry is made. My former in-laws were jewelers.
I also do not wear conventional earring backs as my piercings are too close together. And fish hook style earrings are among the worst things you can put in your ears.

Speaking Of Earrings: This morning, I had much difficulty with the new hoops (whomever designed their posts is an utter moron who has never had a piercing) and ended up dropping them in the swap meet box. Angry Decent hoops can be a pain in the keister to find.

Hair: Same routine for the past 2 days: CWC + Detangling spray + serum + forget a hairtie & have to make a pencil bun at work. ... Yeah, it's "one of those weeks." Tongue You know, the kind where absolutely nothing goes right.

As for products, they're pretty much all the same. I'm using Suave Mountain Strawberry as a light conditioner. Yes, it's pink, happy and vaguely reminiscent of Smarties or some other type of candy. No, I don't know what the #&$% I was thinking. Undecided It does its job.

It's Bug Season: Summer has really been dragging its heels here, but it is finally beginning to rear its ugly head...and with it come all the usual trappings. Mainly bugs. Tongue 3 nights ago, a small flying insect got stuck in my slumber cap as I was doing a heavy EVOO treatment. The night after that, a poisonous spider (presumably) bit me about 5 times in my sleep, leaving big, red welts. So my entire left side is basically covered in Caladryl...I fully expect to see this look on next season's runways. Roll Eyes
As a disclaimer for all you southerners, there are no brown reculse spiders in California, so you may put away your wagging fingers and tongues. We also don't have chiggers. Ask any native SoCalian what a chigger is and 99% of them won't know.

Anyway, after waging a (most necessary) full scale cleaning attack on my room, I ended up having to spend last night in one of our guest rooms, where (naturally) I was attacked by more bugs! My arms look like a topographic map - who needs tattoos? Roll Eyes There's even a huge, swollen bite on my left palm, which makes writing a bit awkward. Undecided Time to stock up on cintronella candles.

Other Stuff: The 'rents and I went to my sister's place last night for fajitas. Her bf just got a new grill, so there was chicken everywhere. Later, he & I compared bug bites...I won. Tongue
We all took turns playing with (and getting sliced up by) Chloe, who seems to be getting bigger every day. She has already learned a few tricks. My sister chases her with a camera, determined to get as many shots as possible while she's still a puppy.

So I have the early shift this morning and figured I would try to get another journal entry in since I'll be insanely busy after I get home, ridding my room of bugginess.

And to tie in the bug/hair subjects, it rather dismays me to be aware that my hair is the exact same colour as crane flies and daddy longlegs spiders. Tongue That's reason enough to justify colouring it, right?

Final thought: People are idiots. Seriously.

Yesterday, I made the "mistake" of reading Jade Puget's blog, wherein he was wondering aloud whether to see the new Star Trek movie. That was it for me. I drove to my favourite theatre here in town (hitting up the nearest Walmart for $1 consessions first) and bought a ticket for the latest showing. Roll Eyes
Wouldn't you know that there just happened to be a pair of good looking fellow Trekkies just a few rows down from mine. Wink Just in case über-handsome Zachary Quinto all over the screen wasn't enough, I guess. Roll Eyes Anywho, good flick, all in all. I think my biggest grin of the night came when Spock quoted Conan Doyle (which is nothing new to Trekkies who have seen the 6th installment - only this time it was Quinto's line instead of Nimoy's). Yes...Quinto, Spock and classic Victorian literature - they go together like bizarre/ironic things I'm not coherent enough to reference at the moment, but...delicious anyway. Wink
There were a few things that I didn't care for as well, but I suppose that's inevitable. Anytime one endeavors to put a "modern spin on an old classic," the end result is almost always unintentionally sacrilegious. Liberties are taken...and the new Star Trek is no exception. And who knew that young Kirk had such dreadful taste in music? I mean, really, the Beastie Boys?! And here I was hoping that bands like these would be long forgotten by the 23rd century. Roll Eyes Ahem...
In any case, a decent effort. Cool FX. Liberties taken. Nimoy = still the man. Quinto = num yummy ... (although, I think I like him better as Sylar, to be honest). Wink Let's hope Mr. Puget liked the film at least as much as I did.

So, what's up in hair news...? Friday = Angel's special WTC day. Washed root to tip with diluted Ice Shine shampoo, left the Deep Fortifying treatment in for the usual hour, then finished with Suave Fresh Mountain Strawberry conditioner. Detangling spray was the only leave-in, and I brought a hairtie and a few bobby pins to work so I can hopefully make some type of updo during my break. 90° days are not for wearing hair down. Tongue The hot season is upon us.

Diet = epic failure. Tongue One of these days, it may help to eat something healthy and get some exercise, but it's so much easier to be indulgent. Granted, my figure and my wallet both suffer.
Another thing that's done right now: my manicure. Ugh. As my old car used to say, "prompt service is required." Tongue

For now, though, I'll just spin a few CD's while I wait for my break person and think of what to do over the 3-day weekend. Peace.

I completely agree.   People should be creative enough to come out with something wonderful and original.   I wish they'd just leave classic movies alone.  I'm not a Star Trek fan.  I've never seen an episode, but I know how you feel about remaking classics.  "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner" is one that comes to mind. I didn't even entertain the thought of seeing the modern day version. Tongue

They should, but very few people are capable of this.

I'm not. I'm a Zachary Quinto fan. Wink

Tanai: Too true. Tongue That was one of the biggest factors in my decision not to have children.

Hair: Yesterday: CWC + Detangling spray + flipped pony braid.
Today: WCC + Detangling spray + EVOO + single braid.
Not sure what I'll do with it tomorrow. Maybe another flipped pony braid, if I have the time.

Goth Gloss: Over the weekend, I've bought 4 of those little travel size plastic pots with the screw-on tops from Wally World and filled them with lipgloss. Mostly random and rarely-used lip products that were doing much of nothing in my makeup box. One of them is an assortment of clear balms and glosses that have been sitting around for...probably a few years now. Undecided One is filled entirely with glittery lipgloss that I got from Victoria's Secret however long ago. Another is a combination of Urban Decay's Love Junkie and B&BW's Liplicious in black cherry.
The last one was an experiment. I melted 2 dark lipsticks together and added the last of a few dark glosses that were hanging around and a little petroleum jelly. Plus a sprinkling of sparkly eyeshadow...not sure if it really did anything though. It came out this incredibly dark concoction with a strong black cherry scent. Even after wiping it off, it leaves a nice stain.
In any case, I got to toss out many tubes of lipgloss in exchange for these 4 little pots. Best things about them are 1. they're this awesomely dark, almost blacklight bulb, purple; 2. just over $2 for all 4 of them. Wink

Other Stuff: So, how's everybody enjoying this 3-day weekend, eh? I'm so bored, it ain't funny. Tongue
Tomorrow, the 'rents and I are going to the zoo. Mum had a ticket for me, so I couldn't turn it down, and it should be fun. I haven't been to our zoo in years.
Time to break out the sunblock again. Undecided

Hair: Clarified today using diluted Herbal Essences Drama Clean shampoo and ACV. Had to keep the water reasonably cool since my scalp and hairline are sunburned. Sad No braid today, as I forgot to bring a hairtie to work with me. Later on, I may do a sleek chignon with a side part to contain the length and cover the long, red stripe in the center of my scalp. Today's only leave-in was Pantene Detangling spray. Nice and light.

Health: Sunblock = fail. Even after slathering it on in disgusting amounts yesterday, I still somehow managed to burn. Angry Granted, not as badly as I would have, had I not used it at all. But still...
Next time, I will wear a huge hat or bring an umbrella and keep the SPF 70+ grease to a minimum. Tongue

In addition, I was also covered in a layer of nasty as I'd decided to try washing with bar soap that morning. Tongue Tongue I wonder about people who use that crap on a daily basis.

So, this morning's shower couldn't come soon enough. I made a separate ACV rinse just for my body and used it after washing, just like with my hair, and it had a similar effect. My skin was soft, slippery and free of nasty. Grin Bar soap is henceforth banned from Angel's arse...nal. Roll Eyes

At the moment, I am 3 days (or is it 2?) into a week-long junk food strike. Honestly, I don't remember when it started Undecided but it will be over on Sunday. Or Monday. Or whenever I crack. Undecided

One of these nights, I will have to start power walking again.

Music: A practice is scheduled for tonight, though my dad may have other plans. We'll see.

Hi, angel, have been out of town a lot, and just caught up with you.  Why do you say that fish-hooks are the worst kind of earrings?  I have worn them for years because I have had problems with allergic reactions to posts.

Re: kids.  I made the decision years ago not to have children and have never regretted it.  However, my decision was mostly based on medical reasons; i.e., my father died of ALS and no one at that time could assure me that it was not the hereditary strain.  Since his father was adopted, I didn't know if it had appeared in previous generations.  Three yrs. ago my male cousin died of ALS, so it's possible that it was the hereditary strain.

Trisha: I'm currently using Coppertone Water Babies lotion, which isn't luxurious but also doesn't break my skin out in a rash. And I can share it with our horses.

Tanai: That seems to be the growing trend. Though 90% could still be swayed, you're plenty old enough to decide what's right for you. I always hated getting the "well, you're young and you'll change your mind later" speeches. Roll Eyes Rubbish.

Melusine: French hooks can cause irritation on the front of the earlobe due to constant friction, regardless of the metal type. My mother and I have always had problems with them and refuse to wear them now...which is fine since I think they look ridiculous anyway. Roll Eyes
There is also no way to reinforce them if the earrings are too heavy. Disc backs can be used for posts, but wires will simply stretch the piercing.

And kudos on your decision. You were aware of a medical condition in your family and actually stopped to consider how it could affect your children's lives. Most people don't get that far - they simply act and face the consequences later.

Hair: Washed from root to tip with the last of my diluted Ice Shine shampoo, then sent the empty bottle through the dishwasher and made a new shampoo blend of Pantene Ice Shine shampoo, Bath & Body Works coconut lime verbena moisturizing shampoo and bottled water. Cheesy

Treated for the usual hour with Pantene Nourishing hair mask, then finished with Suave Fresh Mountain Strawberry conditioner, which I've found to be quite moisturizing as light conditioners go.
Leave-in's were Pantene Detangling spray on the length and EVOO on the ends. Today's style is a flipped ponytail.

Regarding EVOO: My new objective seems to be using it up as soon as possible just to be rid of it, so I've been using it for cooking as well as hair. Yesterday, I used it as an end treatment, an overnight treatment and for making rice.

Health: Still haven't started power walking, but my stomach has been upset for the past few days. It had better fix itself before June 1st. Wink I have been doing a new Hollywood ab exercise every other day, so fitness isn't a total loss.
The junk food strike ended a few nights ago when the 'rents brought me some month-old cake from the freezer. Tongue Grin So not worth it. It reminded me a little bit of taking a bite of the stale, frozen top tier of wedding cake that my ex-husband insisted on keeping in the freezer for a year. Tongue Tongue

Work: Two online safety training courses were waiting in my inbox when I reached the office this afternoon. Tongue Fortunately, they only wasted half an hour.
And a co-worker's nasty estranged husband called today. I thought she'd gotten rid of him, but...apparently not. Guys never can let go.

Weather: It's been cool and gray for 2 days now, which I love. It even drizzled on my windshield as I drove to work. Cheesy But it couldn't have done this a week ago while I was at the zoo and saved me the sunburn. Of course not. Roll Eyes
Last night I wanted to get out and run around town with my car windows down and some kind of weather-fitting music spinning in the CD player (maybe De/Vision). Today I have a little money and 2 more days to play with. Seems a promising start for a fun weekend. Wink

And now the hands of time are standin' still

Hair: CWC + Detangling spray the last 2 days. Yesterday I used EVOO on the ends. Today I didn't.
Measure day tomorrow - woohoo! I have the morning shift at work tomorrow, which means finding out a little earlier than usual how much my hair has grown this month.

My scalp has finally reached the attractive flaking stage of its sunburn. Tongue But the redness has gone down.

Etc.: It's been a weekend, eh? What sort of fabulous trouble have y'all been getting into?
I just got back from Del Taco with dinner. Mmm, tacos...

Yesterday, my father's band played the city street fair. The sound was horrendous (as it always is when my dad isn't the one in charge of it) but they were still the best band that played that day.

...
The band (with good ol' Boscoe subbing on lead guitar, far right). My father is the dark figure in the black hat, 2nd from left.

...
Dad schmoozing with the fans after the set (probably discussing the horrible sound quality Grin).

While there, my mother and I ran into several familiar faces, including members of my band, neighborly fans of my band, a co-worker and a few old friends of mine. The event had quite the turnout for its first year.

Today's been slightly less eventful. The 'rents are out of town, so I have the house to myself. Peace and quiet while I get some last minute chores done before a new workweek begins. Roll Eyes
Happily, I've resumed my daily reading. Oh, and I've discovered that I can make simulated kettle corn with my air popper. Heh.
