Washed this morning; just for a change, I parted on the side today.  Length is down.

Thanks, everyone, for the well-wishes.  I'm sure hubby will be fine.  Fortunately...unfortunately?! --we're now both old pros at this surgery business.   Grin  I'm just thankful this time he only has to spend one night in the hospital.

It's a rainy day here in Missouri, as was yesterday.  Good for the ducks and the gardens, I suppose.   Smiley

I really need to ask hubby to measure my length for May before he has the neck surgery and can't look down for at least 6 weeks.   Grin  Although that wouldn't be too much of a delay in measuring--June.  Still I'm curious as to what my current length is, because it looks really long in the mirror...

Thanks, La Diosa; I'm sure he'll be fine, too.  At this point, we're both looking forward to having this over and done with.
It's final exams week here at the university, so I'll be scoring tests for professors through Wednesday.  Then my trusty assistant will take over the test-grading Thursday and Friday when I'm out.  Ironically, the last surgery hubby had was also scheduled during finals week, and I was out on Thursday and Friday of *that* week, too...hmmm!
HAVE to mow the grass when I get home this evening--no putting it off.

I'm getting ready to try homemade shampoo again.  I believe my last experiment failed, not due to the HM shampoo itself but, from lack of using any type of conditioner.  I cannot do without conditioner.  So I'm thinking I'll try aloe vera gel after shampooing and towel drying.  I don't know; I'm still mulling things about in my head.

Hubby did well with the surgery.  The procedure was done on Friday, late morning, and he was released Saturday morning.  There is some swelling, due to the breathing tube and the incision being on the front of his neck, which is causing him difficulty in swallowing.  But he's dealing as best as he can.  Hopefully by tomorrow, the swelling will be down enough for him to eat and drink normally again.

Hope your husband makes a quick and complete recovery, Trish. And hopefully will have no future spinal issues. I said a prayer for him. All the best to both of you.  Smiley

Wash day!   Smiley  I left my tresses down all morning but suddenly, a little after noon, I couldn't stand the feel of it, and HAD to pin it up in a bun.   Huh  Like I've said before:  I obey my hair.   Smiley

Hubby is doing all right--still sore and achy, and still having a bit of trouble with the swallowing.  His appetite has returned, though, and he's resting better at night.  Thanks to all of you who are sending him healing thoughts and prayers.   Smiley
Much appreciated.

Sunscreen...*sigh*  I hate it.  It feels terrible.  It smells terrible (even the supposedly unscented ones).  It gets everywhere.  However it's summertime in Missouri, and I am terribly fairskinned.  So I have 3 choices.
1.  I slather on the much hated sunscreen every day.
2.  I cover up (long sleeves and a hat) in order to avoid the sunscreen.
3.  I never leave my house again.
As appealing as #3 is somedays, it ain't gonna happen.  Which leaves me to choose between choices 1 and 2.  I'm seriously leaning toward option #2.  It would be SO much easier, and maybe healthier, to simply wear protective clothing.  The biggest problem period is the time when I'm driving home in the afternoon, with the sun beating me to near death.  Today on the drive home I'll wear a hat to see if I find relief.  *Fingers crossed*

I feel your pain, sistah. You think it's bad there...try SoCal.  Tongue  Better yet, don't!

Stay indoors as much as possible, run the a/c in your house, car, whatever...use fans and drink lots of water. If you absolutely must go outside during daylight hours (ugh!), do protect your skin and hair with whatever means possible. Hats, parasols, umbrellas, clothing...heck, grab a towel or blanket and throw it over yourself while running from a building to your car. Just, ya know, make sure you can still see. lol  Grin

You could always try England if you're looking for variety....

The incredibly warm April days we have just been experiencing are not just wonderful, they are downright weird when seen in their seasonal context. Some of them have been 10C hotter, or more, than they should be at this time of the year.

And now after two weeks of almost non stop stair-rod rain we're now all looking like overcooked prunes. Two trees in the garden - a fully mature 100 foot pine and and a lovely very old hawthorn in full blossom finally gave up working it out too....

Glad to hear hubby's on the mend.

French twisty-sort of bun today.   Smiley  I'll probably wash again on Monday morning.  Always like to start out the work week with clean hair.

Other
Wearing the hat during the drive home yesterday worked like a charm.  I also happened to have brought along a long sleeve shirt, and wore that on the drive home as well.  Felt much better than enduring searing flesh.  I remember some time last year Angel talking about "driving gloves" and I'm wondering if I can find a pair...at least I *think* it was Angel.  Arcadian, if I had the money I'd probably have been in England a LONG time ago!   Grin

Spirituality
I hesitate even to bring up this subject (faith, religion--call it whatever).  Those few of you who read my journal have seen me flip flop back and forth so many times.  I'm sure you're sick of seeing me talk about it.  Honestly, I'm getting a bit tired of trying to hash it out myself!   Grin  But hash it out I will.  I must get in touch with what I believe, not what I think I ought to believe.  It's wrong to hide in a dark, dank dungeon simply because you're used to the smell and the feel of it.  Perhaps a good place to start would be to determine what I believe...and yet, I find it easier to list what I do NOT believe, rather than what I do.  Maybe I should start there.  Maybe there is no label for who I am.  Nothing wrong with being label-less.   Smiley  Maybe the spiritual walker should not focus so much on reaching the end of the journey, but the journey itself.  Okay, I'm making my brain hurt--off to explore.  *hugs*

*hugs trisha* I'm another on that same spiritual journey... The first step is to believe in yourself, and the rest shall follow after. Remember, labels are often limiting. And I'm glad the hat worked for you Cheesy

Hope you don't mind a quick thought on this ? For what it's worth I found I was never interested in spirituality at all, a very casual Church of England goer but that was about it. But I've always loved the outdoors to bits and a few years ago stumbled upon something called pantheism which meant nothing and still doesn't ! lol !  Cheesy

But the very lightest Mother Nature sides of it all suits me just fine.... The times I've wrapped up, got a flask of hot coffee and just sat outside alone in the garden, sometimes with a powerful set of binoculars, looking at the Milky Way. Feeling the Universe. The odd meteorite.... It's breathtaking, humbling and puts everything into perspective every single time.  Smiley

Hth a little ?

And hope you manage England one day too especially the Celtic parts of Cornwall which I adore and visit whenever I can Smiley

Yep, that was me. As a lady who values youth and pallor in the flesh, I often wear gloves while driving in order to prevent sun damage. I have them in 3 separate lengths: wrist, elbow and opera, according to the length of my sleeves that day. And when I get where I'm going, I can simply take them off and not have to worry about the slimy, sticky feel of sunblock, which my skin is allergic to anyway.  Tongue
You can find them at any teenage accessory store, like Claire's or The Icing, and that's actually where mine came from. lol  Embarrassed  Grin

As for spirituality, it's a very personal thing. But I remember an old quote that says you've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything. Hang in there.

Trisha, I wear gloves when driving.  I got mine from www.solumbra.com. ; Specifically:
http://www.sunprecautions.com/product.asp?UID=2007051819150514&itemno=3100K07+XX...

I have the black ones, and they don't get too hot.  I live in Arizona, btw.

I also really like their hats for hiking...

Hair
Saturday I mixed up a batch of homemade shampoo, and used it yesterday.  NICE!  The recipe called for "herbal" water, so I brewed up what amounted to peppermint tea.  Hey, peppermint is an herb!   Smiley  For the soap ingredient, I used Dr. Bronner's peppermint liquid castille soap.  I lathered once, did a vinegar rinse, then lathered once again for good measure.  After towel drying, I applied a dollop of aloe vera gel to the ends as a leave-in.  Hair felt amazingly sleek after it dried.  The only drawback that may occur by using the homemade shampoo is the need to wash more often.  Since this gentle soap shampoo isn't as drying as the commercial detergent ones, my natural oils may not know what to do for a while.   Smiley  Oh, I'll also need to do the vinegar rinses more often, to restore the acidity level of my hair.  But I realize it takes about 3 weeks of use to discover true results, so I'll withhold absolute judgement until mid June.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed, though, because I like this solution very much!

Other
All sorts of good suggestions and wonderful caring words from others--thanks everyone!
Kiraela, I think there are a LOT of people searching for spirit, so we're definitely not alone!  *hugs*
Angel and Sakina, thanks ladies for the tips on gloves.  I think that'll be my next purchase in the sun prevention quest.   Wink  The hat and long sleeves are working super!  --Much better than that nasty ol' sunscreen.  Blech!
Arcadian, it's funny you should mention pantheism, because that's an area I very much want to study further.  Don't worry about posting in my journal--feel free to do so anytime.   Smiley
Hubby attended his post-op visit for the neck surgery this morning.  All is going well, and the healing is right on schedule.  He must continue to wear the neck brace at least another 6 weeks, but can remove it for brief periods during the day for LIGHT stretching.
