There are days I wish I had a job that would allow me to read while "on the job".  I'm usually running at a break-neck pace from 6 am to 4 pm with one timeout for lunch.

Maybe when I'm ready to "retire" but still need an income I can find a job like this!  Cheesy

Hair
My night braids looked so cool with today's outfit that I simply rebraided and came to work!  One of my coworkers called me "Pipi'   Grin  but he did so in a loving manner, so I didn't mind.  Besides, hubby calls me Pipi all the time!   Smiley  The bad thing about wearing braids to work is that I can't seem to keep my hands off them!  --I just caught myself fiddling with them again.   Grin  Tomorrow I think I'll not wash and wear a high ponytail.  Then I'll maybe wash Wednesday (oops, tomorrow IS Wednesday) Thursday or Friday.  One thing I've noticed from the braids, though, is I have a lot of different lengths to my hair.  Not layers, lengths; as in the way one's hair grows at different speeds.  So I think I may ask hubby to give me a trim soon.

Other
Tomorrow morning I have a mammogram scheduled.   Shocked  Ugh.  One of those necessary evils of being a woman.  Ugh.  Oh well...do it and get it over with, right?  Yeah.  Ugh.

Hair
Went ahead and washed today, since my hair got a little sweaty from the power outtage described below.  One day early in the wash cycle won't hurt anything.  I'll just try not to wash again until next Monday.   Smiley

When I got home from work yesterday, our power was off. A line of severe thunder storms was moving through the area, and knocked out our grid. Nothing unusual but, being summer time, no electricity can become a real concern.

At least we have a gas stove, and were able to heat up leftovers in one of our trusty iron skillets.  Hubby headed off to a lodge meeting, leaving brother in law (BIL) and me to fend for ourselves.  BIL, who arrived home just as everything shut down, did a lot of reading on the front porch, while I read my bible in my ol' rocking chair. It got to be around 7:30pm and the power still wasn't restored. We had opened some windows, hoping for a good breeze, but it was pretty warm, I have to admit. --Could have been a lot worse, though, had the humidity been higher, or if the rain had not cooled us off a bit. Anyway, around 7:30pm I gave up, laid down on the bed, and ended up dozing off until around 9:00, when Hubby got back home. Guess I needed a little nap! We did the best we could, trying to rest without benefit of air conditioning or fans. Thankfully, the power was finally restored right around midnight!

You know, it seems as if we lose power at least once every summer and, I'll tell you what--it never ceases to make me thankful for modern conveniences. I grew up in an old farm house with no running water and no central air or heat. So when I hear folks talk about the "good old days" and wishing they could live the way our pioneer ancestors did, I do my best not to look at 'em like they're crazy. I think the "good old days" are sort of like the Gobi Desert--it'd be nice to visit, but I sure don't want to live there!

Had the mammogram this morning.   Smiley  You know, with this new digital technology the hospitals are using nowadays, the process really doesn't hurt the way it used to.  Oh, don't get me wrong, it's still a bit uncomfortable.  But nothing compares to the pain those old "vise grips" used to cause!   Grin  I think I passed the test, but my report card won't show up for about a week.

Exactly, after a few of those "good old days" they would be praying for modern conviences. Grin

Well, that's good that it doesn't hurt so much anymore.  Because of what I'd heard of the pain, I really wasn't looking forward to them.  Good Luck! Smiley

My last entry was June 27...sheesh--what the heck was I doing?!   Huh
So...tomorrow is Independence Day (yay!), but we have no big plans...which is fine with both of us.  My inlaws will be over for a meal, and that's all.  My daughter is coming home on Thursday, and will probably leave on Saturday, I imagine.  She begins a new job on Monday, the 9th.  Stepson is trying to join the National Guard, but no one has heard from him.  So we don't know whether or not he passed the physical exam.  Hubby had his 6 week follow-up exam for his neck yesterday, and was given the okay to take off the neck brace.  He was so happy!   Cheesy  The only time the neck brace must be worn is when Hubby is a passenger in a moving vehicle (but not when he's driving, which I don't understand).  He'll go back in another 6 weeks, in September.  Both fusions are healing fine and the doctor is happy with the progress.

Hair
*shrug*  Nothing new.  It continues to grow.  It continues to be healthy.  It's like an old friend--just sort of there.   Smiley

Possibly, if the neck brace interferes with movement of the neck, it could interfere with driving ability? Just a thought, IDK.

Hmm...that does seem odd, maybe Kiraela is right. Huh  It's good to hear that he's doing well though.

Enjoy your holiday! Cheesy

Hair

Wash day; did a vinegar rinse this morning and still using the Tre Semme s+c.  Using the Tre Semme condish as a leave-in, and it's been working better for me than the previously used aloe gel.  I left my hair down to dry until I got to work, and had planned on leaving it down all day.  But my  tresses were making me hot so up into a bun they went.  I usually can't do anything with too-clean hair except leave it down.  But apparently I caught it this morning at just the right amount of dampness and making the bun was no problem.

Kiraela and La Diosa, you're probably right about the neck brace and driving. In any case, he's a happy camper.   Smiley
July in Missouri...UGH.  I can't wait for Autumn.   Sad
The university where I work has a nice little policy of buying back vacation hours from employees, and I always take advantage of that program.  We can only sell back a maximum of 40 vacation hours in one year's time.  So I've put in my request and on the 20th of this month, along with my normal pay, should receive a goodly "bonus" in my check.  I'm going to use the majority of the money for new clothes.

I need some new, er, undergarments  Wink  for the "upper story".   Grin
and some new tops
http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?categoryId=44845...
and some new skirts
http://www.hannahlise.com/detail.aspx?ID=261

I would LOVE to also buy these boots
http://www.bootbarn.com/itemview/women/bootsshoes/staffrecommendations/view/6780...
(or something similar), but haven't completely made up my mind about them yet.  For me, $90 is a whole lot of money for one item (even if it's boots).  On the other hand, if they're good quality they should last me quite a while.

As to the boots, I love the look of the western style wedding boots.  But the boots I end up purchasing must fit within certain criteria...the heel must not be above 2 1/2 inches (preferably 2).  It must be cut in a wide width.  No platform soles.  The cost must not exceed $100 (with tax).  They cannot be suede.
Basically, I've been searching for a practical boot that is also fashionable.  I'm looking ahead to Winter where I will most likely wear the boots almost every day.  I think these (at the Boot Barn) will fit the bill.  *fingers crossed*   Smiley  Now I just have to choose between the colours of "Brandy" or "Antique Saddle".  I have a lot of browns in my wardrobe, as its one of my favourite colours.  I'm leaning toward "Brandy", though, as I'm afraid the "Saddle" would almost be too light.   Huh

Hair
Slept with my hair down last night.  I don't do that too often because, like this morning, I end up with some pretty good knots in the length.   Shocked  Shame on moi.  No-wash day; length in a high ponytail.

Shoe shopping can be just as frustrating as clothes shopping, eh? Everybody has their own preferences, so there's a lot of trial and error. Just like hair, I guess...  Roll Eyes

I know that's right!!  If I find the style I want then the size is wrong.  If I find the right size then the shoes are ugly!   Angry  Oh well.  It makes finding the right pair just that much more special.   Wink

Hair
No-wash day.  My hair wasn't greasy at all this morning, so I decided to wear it down with a couple of barettes holding back the sides.  But as the morning wore on, my hair began having frizzy issues.   Shocked  I never have the frizzies!!  Probably the humidity, I guess.  *shrug*  So up into a bun it went.

Note to self:  Spend some money on yourself, girl.  You need some new clothes, you worked hard for the money, and you deserve a little splurge party.  You're always reluctant to spend money on yourself.  Remember, though, you have to take care of yourself in order to take care of others.  *smooch*   Roll Eyes

No wash day.  Length is down, parted on the side, with the tops of each side braided.  *shrug*  Something different.

I love wearing skirts, even in cooler weather.  But I stopped wearing pantyhose a long time ago, because of their eevilness, and I recently stopped wearing thigh high hose because the elastic kills my skin.   Angry  Thank goodness for internet shopping!  I found a good garter belt and quality made stockings, suitable for everyday wear.  And the total price for my purchase was very reasonable.  I chose a 6-strap belt (the more belts, the smoother the stocking), and Italian-made stockings (only $9 a pair).  I placed my order last Friday morning and received the package in Monday's post.  How's that for fast!  --The only problem is my stockings are on back order, so I received only one pair.   Sad  Patience, Trisha.  I have worn "real" stockings before, but the cheapo belt I had did them no justice.  So I'm excited about getting into that habit.
