Hair
No-wash day; tresses are up in a high ponytail.  I need to do a vinegar rinse soon.  Still using the Pantene products.  When I've used up the Brunette Expressions s+c I don't know if I'll try another Pantene line or simply return to TreSemme.  Since I already have a supply of the TreSemme, I'll probably go with that.

Although Trishia, you mybe interested to know that I've gone against type and did a little poking aroung on ancestors.com.  I found some information on my paternal grandfather, even finding out the name and birth location of his mother.   I found that a bit cool, like putting together a puzzle or doing detective work

Good for you, sweetie!   Smiley  See, wasn't that fun?  I get so much of a rush when I solve a "history mystery" I've been stumped on for a while.  Love it!

To be honest I've pretty much decided against attending the family reunion in October, unless something miraculous happens between now and then.  It kind of hearkens back to what La Diosa said...if I cared about them--if THEY cared about ME, wouldn't we be in contact more than once a year??  I hate pretending.  And I hate doing things out of a sense of obligation.  I'm 45 years old, for crying out loud, and if I do NOT want to attend the stinkin' family reunion then I WON'T.   Angry  harumpf!  Besides, it's not as if I sit around on my arse every weekend doing nothing.  I have a life, gosh darnit, and a major part of that involves taking care of my family!  double harumpf!

Juuuuust a thought, but your relatives, no matter how distant, are still your family. They won't be around forever. As a woman who traces her family history, would it not interest you to hear the stories of family members who are still alive to tell you about them? I'm sure that if you had the opportunity to talk to any of the distant relations you've been reading up on, you would seize it in a heartbeat.

Families don't always have time to get together. Heck, I live with 3 immediate family members and usually, not a one of us is home at the same time. Does that make them any less family? Of course not. I also have relatives - immediate, distant and surrogate - scattered all across the country, many of whom I've not seen in several years. Does that break our bond as family? No.

Of course, I also have a few relatives whom I cannot stand and would rather have nothing to do with whatsoever. Everybody has those, I think. And if that's how you feel about each and every person that will be attending the reunion, then yes, you should probably avoid it, and no one could blame you.
I think what it really comes down to is whether or not you really care...not them. If you decide to go and totally hate it, there aren't any laws that require you to stay there, nor are there any chains holding you down.

Please don't be angry with me - I'm certainly not trying to pursuade an opinion or anything because it's none of my business. Just thought I should mention, as a person who has lost a great deal of family members, that these people won't always be there. You don't want to find yourself looking back with regret. Do what you feel is right.  Wink

Oh, I'm not mad at you sweetie.  Our friendship is too strong.   Smiley  And I agree with most of what you said.  But the genealogy I'm working on isn't my mother's side; that family history was done years ago by an uncle of mine.  I'm working on filling in the gaps of my father's ancestors and, unfortunately, those folks are long gone.  Honestly, I always feel out of place among my mother's siblings + their families.  They don't say or do anything specific, it's a vibe I pick up on.  Or maybe I'm simply super insecure, I don't know.  I didn't have time this morning, but I need to find my handwritten journal from last year and see what my thoughts were about the 2006 reunion.  I just always remember thinking, "Thank God that's over!"  The bottom line is I have about 3 weeks to decide and, even then, there could be a last minute change.  Thanks for your thoughts, though, really--I honestly appreciate it.

No prob. Gawd, I know what you mean, though. The relatives that I never wish to associate with are on my mother's side of the family too.  Tongue

I just want you to do whatever makes YOU happy.  Life is too short to put yourself in a situation that'll make you miserable, whichever way you decide to go with this. Wink  Good luck with your decision.

Hair
Washed today with my old stand-by TreSemme.  I'm not sure why...I simply had an urge to pass on the Pantene this morning.  *shrug*  Since it's wash day, the tresses are down; I can't do much with my hair when it's super clean.

Other
Yesterday when I got home from work I dug out my journal from last year, to reread my thoughts about last year's family reunion.  Do you know what I found?  --Nothing!   Roll Eyes  Oh, I found the journal, and I found several entries around that time of the year (the reunion is always held during the first weekend in October).  But I made absolutely positively no mention of it.  Hmmm!  ...So later I asked my hubby.  "Do you remember -- Did we go to last year's reunion?"  Huh  "No," he says, "You said you didn't want to go."  Hmmm!!  In fact, he went on to remind me, you haven't been to a family reunion in 2 or 3 years.   Shocked  Hmmm!!!  --And here I thought I had only skipped 1 year!

Amen to that, La Diosa.

There are a lot of little factors in this decision, not the least of which is distance.  It takes a good hour of driving time to get from our house to the reunion site.  That's an hours worth of gasoline gone from our budget.  My sister is coming home for the reunion and to be honest, I'm not looking forward to seeing her.  I'm quite ticked at her right now for reasons I don't want to go into just yet.  And those are just a few issues....*sigh*  Oh, I don't know.  This year I'll probably play the part of the good little niece and have hubby drive me down there--that way we can leave when we want.  My daughter is also coming home that weekend so we can celebrate her birthday early.  I suppose we could arrive around 9:30 or 10, do the visiting thing, and then leave by noon.  Hubby and I are still living our low carb lifestyle, so we can't really stay for lunch anyway.

All right, ladies, mucho thanks for all the thoughts you've given me.  *group hug*  Kiss

Hair
Wash day.  Used Pantene's Brilliant Brunette; still have quite a bit to use up before running out...at this rate, maybe another month to a month and half supply (big bottles).  Hair is shiny, healthy and happy.   Smiley

I've definitely decided to attend the family reunion.   Cool  Seriously, what will it cost me?  --Only a few hours out of my life.  Plus, anymore it's rare for my sister and me to both show up at the reunion, and I know that will make the aunts and uncles happy.    Roll Eyes  At the worst, my sister will still be acting like the south end of a horse but in reality I don't have to be around her if I don't feel like it.   Angry    Oh yes...the period of October 4 through October 8 could be VERRRRRRRRRY interesting.  But my daughter is also coming home for a visit on that weekend and I am determined to have a good time.  Yes, I am.   Cool

Hair
Washed and conditioned this morning with Pantene Brunette Expressions.  Nothing else new in my hair world.  *sigh*

Other
Not much else happening in other news either.  *sigh*  Boring.  I'm in a shopping mood, rare for me, but can't until after Friday (payday).  Sucks being poor.

Hair
No wash day--probably won't wash again until Monday morning, and then I need to do a vinegar rinse.

I haven't talked about my weight in a while.  It's actually good.  Hubby and I are still living our low carb life, and will probably be low carbers forever.  This way of eating works well for us.  Right now I weigh 159 lbs, and I'm 5' 71/2".  I plugged those numbers into the CDC body mass index calculator and <drum roll, please> I'm normal!!  A BMI of 18.5 to 24.9 is normal, and I fall into that range.  Whew!  ...Good to know SOMEBODY thinks I'm normal!!   Cheesy

Hair
Washed yesterday and did a vinegar rinse, so today is 2nd-day hair up in a bun.  I'm trying to decide how I want to do my hair for the family reunion on Saturday.  On the one hand I'd like for it to be freshly washed and leave it down for everyone to notice.  On the other hand my hair looks really good in a bun.  *shrug*  I'll simply have to wait and find out what mood strikes me on Saturday morning.

Other
Yeah, so, the family reunion is this Saturday.  As far as I know, my sister and her husband will be arriving sometime on Thursday.  I don't know for certain, you see, because the last time I talked to her was when I telephoned last Sunday (the 16th).  Her tone then was very curt and short, and the conversation was very brief.  I don't know what's going on with her, but she doesn't need to take it out on me.   Angry  Enough about her.  My daughter will also be home this weekend  Smiley  and we'll be celebrating her birthday early while she's here.  I need to do some serious cleaning before Thursday, so every day after work I plan on completing a task or two.  But if the house isn't dust free from top to bottom, who cares?  The important thing is that we all get to spend some time together.   Cool

Oh Trish, you sound like such a cool mom!
My mother would probably never put forth that much effort if I were coming to visit. And if she did, she would likely freak out trying to get it all done in one day, turning everyone else in the house into her slaves. lol
Your daughter is truly blessed.  Smiley

It's great to know that your happy with your diet and that it's working for you.  I'm just curious as to what you eat.  I've given up all meat with the exception of fish and now I find myself eating a lot of carbs.  I would like to eat less carbs but I'm afraid if I do I'll starve. Undecided

Sounds like you're going to have a very busy weekend.  I hope everything goes great! Cheesy

Wednesday 3 October 2007

Angel: Awwww, thanks so much!  My daughter is one of the best things in my life.   Smiley  I feel blessed to have her.

LaDiosa:  Actually, there's a lot of allowable foods on a low carb diet.  You've given up meat?  Okay...well, let's start with something easy:  green salads.  Salads are the staple of our meals.  Start with just plain ol' lettuce, add whatever kinds of veggies you like that are low in carbs (peppers, cauliflower, broccoli, tomatoes, cukes...), add some cheese (most hard cheeses are low carb), a low carb dressing (which usually translates to low- or no-sugar), and there's your meal.  Hubby and I pattern our eating habits after the Atkins plan, and I'm including a link to the Atkins site's carb counter page.
http://www.atkins.com/carb-counter
We go by the "net" carb figures which is the total amount of carbs minus any fiber.  It's a good site to look around, although it's not geared toward vegetarian leanings.  Also a good mutli vitamin is important if you're not already on a regimen.
Just let me know if you have any questions and I'll be happy to help if I can.

Hair:  Wash day with Pantene Brunette Expressions.  Nothing else new.  *shrug*  *sigh*

Other:  My sister and brother in law should be arriving sometime tomorrow (I guess; who knows?).  Last night I dusted.  Tonight after work I need to mow the grass and vacuum.  Saturday, of course, is the family reunion.  I will survive...it's only for a couple of hours...*cleansing breath in*   Huh  *exhale bad stuff*   Smiley

LOL @ "exhale bad stuff". Man, that's it in a nutshell, isn't it?  Grin

And you're totally welcome. I wish that my own mother was more relaxed and easy-going, but the only way that happens is with booze.  Roll Eyes
