I love the sound of harps, I'd have to say harps and flutes are my favorite sounding instruments.  Ya lost me though, did you say you would never buy a harp or just not the one you saw?  Do you play?

I love the sound of harps and they can be so relaxing and calming they almost put me to sleep (but then so does heavy metal music but not in the same way) Cool

Oh, I didn't mean to cause confusion. I will, and am going to buy a harp, just not the particular type I played. I would have been happy with it, at least for a while, but the dead sound would have driven my poor boyfriend insane. He's trained in several music studios as a sound engineer, so the off sound would have been like, "gah!!"

Yesterday was the first time I've gotten a chance to play one, although I have wanted to since... geez. I don't even remember when. I can distinctly remember, on the way to my riding instructor's farm, mom and I listening to Loreena McKennitt's old stuff and thinking I wanted to have whatever instrument made that sound.

The harp I want is called a "Harpsicle". It's a fairly inexpensive 26 string harp, but it's well made and sounds beautiful. The same company that makes the 295$ harpsicle, also makes several thousand dollar harps, in the same shop, by the same people.   At first the name threw me off, honestly. I thought it was a cheap gimmick to sell cheaper toys, that would break if you touched them. But research has led me to the conclusion that it's the perfect harp for what I want. I'm not sure if it's the best cheap harp on the market, or the cheapest good quality harp. either way.  But what really sold me? on the harpsicle webpage, Harpsicleharps.com ... they have a link to a couple of sound samples, and it's gorgeous. We called a few months ago to get a couple questions answered, and for clarification we asked if the samples had been modified, edited, or whatever. Not only did the woman we were talking to assure us that indeed, it was un processed harpsicle, she played a small tune on one that was sitting in the office(I think it was hers, that she brought to practice during her break), and it was even more lovely than the ones on the site.

Now, I just need to save up the money, without something else getting in the way. like bills. GRR.

Not much new to report, other than that Paul's cat is seriously weird. I mean.. Moreso than I'd thought. A bit of background? Voodou's cage is a hard plastic crate sized for a medium dog. Emma's cage is a small black pet bag which sits on top of voodou's cage.

Voodou's been locked in her cage for three weeks, since she's been in heat nonstop, and pees on everything while she is hormonally unbalanced. I feed her in the cage, and let her run around the house for about an hour a day with supervision.  She's finally acting normal, so I let her out of the cage. What does she do? Goes over, eats from the regular food bowl, and then jumps up into Emma's bag and goes to sleep. It's like, she's been locked up for almost a month, and her first action on getting parole is going and locking herself up again?

Defective cat.

Okay, the lizard invasion has officially gone too far. The toilet I can handle. The ironing board was an acceptable loss. The window sills and doorjams... isn't that where every invasion starts? But now... the bloody beasties have struck at the very capitol of the Kingdom itself. I present to you: Bedlizard.

...

...

Bedlizard was shortly thereafter carried off by my black-clad enforcer, Captain Voodou, probably to be tortured for information(and/or amusement, this being a cat). This war... it has gone too far.

I think the lizard is cute. Grin  I'd much prefer the lizard to field mice and brown mice that choose to invade my house.  (Not to mention the occasional neighbor's dog!).

Mice is one problem we don't have, LOL. Both cats are avid huntresses. There aren't that many roaming dogs around here, given the fact that we live on a fairly busy state highway. Any dog that's loose has a life expectancy of maybe 6 months, if that. An outdoor cat's is even worse, since around here, people will swerve to HIT a cat. 'swhy emma and V. are indoors only, even though V. would desperately love to go outside and kill things.

I just read Trishas journal about a serial rapist and now here we have people that enjoy hitting cats with their cars... what is this world coming to? Cry

We had a gecko in our house today too.  Fortunately, It was only near our sliding backdoor.  When I picked my cat up so she that could get a closer look, he scurried back outside.

I still think they're cute though, but would hate to have them roaming freely around my house, not to mention all of the commotion it would arise in my cats.

Hmm. It certainly has been a while.

I've been working on my music again... and since I'm finally sort of getting serious about it, I basically set up the bedroom as an admittedly rather crappy recording area. What was once my personal computer is now pretty much a graphics and music butt-kicking machine. I've pretty much arranged all our sound stuff in one corner, surrounding the computer as best as possible.

I'm currently working on a sort of gothic christmas song. It's frustrating, though, since there's traffic noises in the background. :/ I suppose it gives it a bit of urban depressing winter feel, though. It was odd, the other day I was walking from the shop to the house and thought to myself, ' hey, it's finally starting to feel like early october!'... then I realized it was less than a week to christmas. stupid Louisiana with it's defective arse seasons.

Anyway, I think for the new year I'm getting my hair professionally dyed, so that the bleached area matches the natural color as best as possible. The quality will never be the same, but the color at least, can be. Paul has a friend who's one of those... I can't think of the word.. 'hair lady' for rich people? one of those. He's going to see if he can negotiate the price of dye-ing. She used to take care of Paul's ex-wife's hair, so she knows long hair needs, and I might be able to trust her to do trims that aren't secretly chops. (BTW, I've seen pictures of most of his former females... he's apparently always had a thing for long locked lasses)

Random thought. My mother doesn't understand why I am going for such long hair, I think. I mean, she understands the love of long hair, don't get me wrong. It's mostly because when hers was classic length, back in the 70s, it gave her headaches, and she fears that mine will do the same when I get there. We've got similar thickness, although hers is somewhat coarser than mine, so I don't know. Will it? I hope not. If so... They've got medications for headaches. Grow through the pain? maybe I will, thanks.

Current routine that's been working well.
* comb hair out before shower.
* brush again to get all the loose hairs.
* comb again.
* Shampoo from ears up.
* Separate my hair into two sections and pull over my shoulders, apply conditioner, comb through gently.
* comb hair back over shoulders and then bun it, still conditionery.
* leave up while I go about the rest of my showery stuff, which given that I'm practically part fish, can take almost an hour.
*rinse out condit.
*condit again, just the ends this time, comb through again, rinse.
*turn off hot water and stand far out of the spray, leaning back so that my hair is under the freezing stream.

fin.

I've been using way less shampoo that I did in years past, and going through as much if not more conditioner. I'm pretty well sticking with Pantene Ice Shine S&C.

I don't comb the hair while it's wet, pretty much I either keep it in a low ponytail or just down.

I've also noticed that as winter(or a pale facsimile thereof) has arrived, my hair's gotten straighter. It used to air dry into a 2b before combing... now it's almost 1c. I'm not sure if I like this, or not.

Oh, Kiraela...my twin.  Roll Eyes

You just described my shower routine almost verbatum.  Wink  And mine also take an hour. LOL

I think the professional colouring sounds fine as long as you take care of your hair afterwards. I mean, that hair is already damaged, right? Why not? If it will unify the colour and make you happy, I say go for it.

Oh yeah, and Ice Shine totally rocks. I think I'm still in love with it even though I'm partially using Restoratives right now. hehe

Honestly, that's pretty much what I figure. I'm going to have her keep the dye off the natural area as much as possible (She's anti dye for the most part, so that isn't a problem)... and I mean.. This hair has been screwwed up so many times with dyes, bleach, bad management... Nothing can save it, so it might as well live out the rest of its pitiful life looking good, right? It's either that or I go for the Chop. and it would be a BIG chop indeed. And since I don't want hair above my shoulders again... this is the only possible route for now.

ERGH. why is it that the winter holidays, and christmas in particular, bring out the arsehole in so many people? Paul and his father have been fighting nonstop for several days. I mean... at least keep your arguing to the times when I'm not bloody well trying to sleep. I don't know if you believe in spiritual gifts like thought sensing or empathy... but I do... given that I can sense other's feelings, and the stronger they are... the worse the feedback becomes. Like, when I'm around someone who is stressing out over something... I get antsy and itchy. Which means that whenever Paul's friend M. comes over lately, I need a benadryl afterwards.  Well, I've also got something of a massive guilt complex, which means I feel like everything is my fault, even though rationally I know it's not. The massive amounts of rage coming from the two of them, combined with that.. I've been a rather unhappy K. all week.

Hair: braided. Needs washing. They're out in the shop right now, and I can hear them from the bathroom, so it will stay greasy and braided for a while longer.

It's a stressful time of year, little sis. People are usually trying to get a lot more accomplished than they would during the rest of the year. Workloads tend to get heavier for people who are in the business of supplying a product, which Paul and his father are. Not to mention, everyone is usually flying around like headless chickens trying to satisfy everyone on their gift list when they really don't have money or time to do so. Added stress brings out the arses in people...if there are arses in them.
None of this justifies any sort of bad behaviour, however. I have always been of a mind that no matter how stressed out you are, don't be a jerk to the people that love you. They don't deserve it and nothing justifies it. Ever.

And I definitely believe in "spiritual gifts" considering that I inherited an extra-sensory gene from my father's gypsy family. You have empathy...I have clairvoyance. I think that everyone does, really. It's just stronger in some people than others.

Anyway, it's definitely not your fault that everyone around you is fighting like overgrown children. There are different sides to each story. Everyone's got their own set of stresses and you can't help the way that they choose to deal with them. Worry about you, dear Kiraela.

And have a merry Christmas.
