Curlgirl: Thanx. Smiley

Hair: CWC yesterday & today. I've started adding Pantene Color Volume conditioner to my regular conditionings since I happened to have it around.

Already I fear I'm tiring of the new serum and its greasiness so I'll try using shine spray on the ends tomorrow instead.

Style du jour is a bun. Yesterday I did a twisted updo and used barrettes to secure the ends instead of bobby pins, which seems to work better. The trick is covering the barrettes with twisted hair. It's not a huge deal if they stick out a little since it's a funky style anyway.

Music: The gang was all there at Lizard's place last night. Another fellow was playing lead guitar so my father played bass, which left Lizard free to just sing. And he still messed up half of the lyrics. ...
Chatterbox was there when I arrived as she has been for the past few jams. Sometimes she joins in on guitar and sometimes she sings with us. Nice enough gal but she never shuts up.

Boscoe has moved his studio into Lizard's music room so he's often there as well. He was one of the 2 founding members of the band and everyone there is intimidated by him. Everyone except my father (who went to high school with Boscoe) and I (who have known him my entire life). So we think it's great to see him more often.
A little tangent, if you'll indulge me...Boscoe is easily one of the top 10 guitar players in the world and used to play lead for people like Johnny Cash and Ricky Skaggs. In the 1970's, he & Lizard were part of a zany variety act called Montezuma's Revenge for which the roller coaster at Knott's Berry Farm was named:

Anyway, my father made me drive through In-N-Out on the way home since he was starving and while we were waiting, A Girl Like You by The Smithereens came on the radio and dad immediately perked up about how he loved that song and how his own band (which is country) should do it. Grin I volunteered to do harmony. Roll Eyes
Then I parked in the lot and we listened to the radio while we macked our burgers. He told me about concerts he'd gone to in the 70's and I told him who all was coming to town this year.
    We got home around 11:00.

Etc.: It's 93°F right now according to my weather.com widget; 98°F according to my car and the thermometer in the backyard says 100°F. Tongue Nasty hot any way you look at it. I've only stepped outside twice today for a matter of seconds and it's like walking into an oven. Only much, much brighter. Summer has officially started to suck.

Fortunately there are all manner of things to do indoors. I've already redone my nails in black with silver micro glitter...and there are new job postings as well as 19th century literature that are asking to be read. And then there's my bass guitar...

Of course, with summer comes bugs and a generous spider apparently left its eggs to hatch somewhere in my bathroom so its crawly offspring are everywhere. I've probably killed a dozen of the little brown buggers already but have no idea where they keep coming from. Tongue

You Are Creative

Trish & Curlgirl: Amen to both of you!

Hair: CWC yesterday + leave-in spray blend and shine spray on the ends. Both the new serum and shine spray are too heavy for my hair Sad so I'll just use the latter whenever I go in for a trim...even though it kinda smells like old cigarettes. Tongue
Thus I suppose that means taking back my bottle of ELOO from the kitchen.

With the temps reaching over 100°F now, keeping the hair up is essential whether it means a bun, twisted updo, flipped braid, whatever.

Music: Got an e-mail from Grateful Ed yesterday commending me for "really bringing it lately." Grin He records most of our jams and plays them back on his own time. In truth, I'm not really doing anything differently than I've always done. Perhaps relaxing more, I don't know. It was sweet of him to say though, bless his heart.

The band is now trying to "rehearse" twice a week. A bit excessive, but I guess they need my voice there so the new lead guitar guy can figure out his harmonies (usually a good octave or two above mine). Roll Eyes It's all ridiculous if you ask me, and now I'm beginning to realize the plight of so many musicians who wonder why they torture themselves by staying in crappy bands. With any luck it could lead to bigger, better things and if not, it's experience. *shrug*

Etc.: A few nights ago I walked into the main bathroom in our house to find it completely overrun with baby spiders. They'd made a network of webs across the ceiling, leading from one object to another. Some of them hung from the light (which is where they all seemed to be coming from), some from the shower curtain, some of them from the walls themselves - they were absolutely everywhere. Like a scene from a horror movie or a very disturbing dream. Every time I tried to kill them, they would end up landing on my hands or arms or wherever and eventually it was clearly too much for my arachnophobic nerves to handle. I ran out swatting and scratching myself, bringing the situation to the attention of every member of my family who each had to see for themselves.

My father took care of things and we haven't really had a problem since. There have been one or two but nothing I couldn't handle. Spiders in general have been crazy this summer. Our regular bug service is supposed to treat that. Huh

Our "family" from Kansas arrived last night and will be staying with us for a week. They don't actually have any blood relation to us, but 2 generations of our respective families grew up together so it's close enough. Always great to have them back.

The dysfunctional central a/c apparently just got repaired. Yesterday the house couldn't get cooler than 77°F even with the thermostat set at 74°F. The 'rents had someone look at it this morning and it seems to be working fine now.

Fisher2: Nice work, man. You're almost there. Smiley

Hair: Today's CWC used the last of my Suave pomegranate splash light conditioner so tomorrow I'll start with green apple. Lately the only leave-in I've been using is the spray conditioner blend. There isn't much left of it and my inner fruit bat is looking forward to indulging itself with the awaiting bottle of apple scented Suave Kids leave-in.

Style du jour is a single braid. Ends are healthy.

Music: 2 practices with the band this week, just when things couldn't get any better (and believe me, we won't get any better). ...
Double the enjoyment of holding my breath while some of the guys light up joints while sitting near me. And holding my tongue when the inevitable politics/religion debates ensue. I'd just as soon stay out of it. Go figure...a rock singer who knows when to keep her soddin' mouth shut. Roll Eyes

At least Lizard is cooking hot dogs tonight.

Etc.: Our out of state guests have left for the week. Last night we all went to the zoo. I piled on the slimy sun protection and my father warned me against wearing black (like I own anything else). When we got there, the weather was gray, cool and cloudy.

Still no news for the job search. Sigh.

Hair: Another CWC today, breaking in the new Suave green apple light conditioner. I'd forgotten exactly how light it was. The pomegranate splash was much thicker.

Leave-ins were the spray conditioner blend on the length and serum on the ends. The latter is still too greasy and I only used a drop. Sad What a waste of $10.

Style is a single braid. Tonight I want to try & do some sort of overnight treatment.

Etc.: Practice kept us an hour later than usual last night and the "hot dogs" turned out to be pollo asada street tacos and corn on the cob. Good stuff though I didn't get enough of it. I suppose the 350-some-odd calorie drink that I had more or less made up for that. Undecided
Grateful Ed was predictably red eyed and ridiculous by the 2nd set. At least I was able to distance myself when he & the keyboard player lit up. Tongue Oh, not Moon Pie...he doesn't use drugs (at least not that I'm aware of). It's the other keyboard player.

Escrow didn't close on the condo that my sister and her bf were supposed to get like it was supposed to. They've already cleaned the place, had the carpets cleaned and moved their new refrigerator in. Their realtor is giving them the runaround I guess. Undecided So for now they're still with us.

Finger and toenails both got a makeover from the chipped black shells that covered them before. The problem is that I don't like the new versions on either. Undecided Toes have a gray rainbow glitter...fingers are clear with irridescent glitter. I prefer shine over sparkle on nails, so it's not really working for me.

In local news, the races started today. Thoroughbreds, that is. And tomorrow the Downtown convention center will be overflowing with übergeeks for the first day of Comic Con.

Got a report this afternoon that my 18 year old cousin is 90% recovered from her Bell's Palsy paralysis and is now working at one of the poshest steakhouses in the county.

Anyway, that's all for now.

I am conditioner -- results posted in my journal.   Cool  ...which makes us a matched set.
Good news about your cousin!  Um...I'm curious as to what your father thinks about those guys lighting up in his daughter's presence.  ???

Very uplifting news about your cousin.  What a blow for your sister and her bf though.  There are many nailpolishes I'd be much happier with if they were just shiny and not shimmery.

Indeed. A matched Pantene set, perhaps? Wink

His daughter is an adult with enough self awareness not to mimic whatever she sees. Wink

Drear: Quote:

True. No one really seems to know exactly when their escrow will close. They're excited to move out but it probably won't happen for a few more weeks.

Quote:

Oh, shimmer isn't a problem for me at all. The vast majority of my polishes have a metallic finish. I prefer them.
It's glitter that I'm wary of. Trace amounts are fine, but most glitter polishes have a bumpy texture when they dry, which kills the sparkle.

Hair: This morning I got the urge to herbal. Roll Eyes I decided to try my mother's Hello Hydration shampoo and pair it with the blend of Hello Hydration/Pantene moisturizing conditioner that I made a few days ago. However, it wasn't the coconut scent that greeted me in the shower but the stench of Garnier Fructis. Tongue That was when I remembered my mother saying that she'd blended the two.
So much for that.

The routine was a CWC, same as ever. Today's only leave-in was the spray conditioner blend. Style is a single bun.

My sister also let me style her hair for work and asked me for a mini trim. Her poor hair is sooo damaged. Sad It sucked up all of the ELOO that I put into it, but I at least prevented her from flat ironing for one day.
She typically wears a low ponytail at work, so today I put it up a little higher - right about the middle of her head - and wrapped a section of hair around the hairtie. She laughed about me being the family stylist since I often cut my father's hair as well. Roll Eyes

Etc.: Oh, but I'm a makeup artist as well. Wink My sis has some seriously dry, irritated patches of skin on her eyelids so I doctored them up as much as I could before putting any makeup on her. I kept it as light, natural and non-irritating as possible to help her skin recover. Quite a different look for her but she's super cute anyway and doesn't need to pile it on in layers like a drag queen.

Anyroad, back to laundry duties. Roll Eyes

Hair: Clarified after almost 2 weeks worth of buildup. Tongue I wish I could say that a dose of Drama Clean was enough to quell my craving for Herbal Essences, but the truth is it wasn't. Again I'm growing tired of the residue left behind by heavy shampoos, even if it is a "conditioning" residue. I reached this same conclusion the first time I tried Pantene Nature Fusion. Undecided Now I've finally more or less begun to accept that it's just going to be a vicious cycle and I may as well have a variety of products on hand at all times depending on my hair's needs. C'est la vie. Might as well make the most of it, eh?

Anyway, so it's clarified. The usual ACV rinse, blah blah blah, conditioned with Pantene's old Deep Fortifying Treatment; no leave-ins. My hair is returned its natural spiderweb texture...and actually smells rather nice. Smiley At the moment, I'm looking for excuses to drive around town to help it dry faster.

Etc.: Spent the whole of last night cleaning my car inside & out, pulling off the back license plate to scrape off 3 years of previous registration stickers to affix the new one, then putting it all back together again - plate, frame, screws and all. That may be a factor in my wanting to get out of the house as well. Roll Eyes

Yesterday I got a lot done so today is my day to just chill and do whatever.

Hair: CWC with Suave green apple light conditioner, Herbal Essences Tousle Me Softly shampoo and blended Pantene, HE conditioner. Spray conditioner has worked well as the sole leave-in of late. Coif du jour was a flipped ponytail.

At my aunt's place early this evening, she paused in the middle of a conversation with my parents and asked me how long my hair was. I stood up from her living room sofa and turned around so she could see. The rest of the evening was sprinkled with comments from her and my cousins about how long or thin my hair was...which of course my mother didn't fail to embellish with her own ideas. Roll Eyes You can't have a fan club without gaining a few haters along the way, I guess.

Etc.: This afternoon the 5 of us (immediate family + my sister's bf) went to a surf shop in Coronado to use up some of my father's store credit, in part for my sister's bf's upcoming birthday. I checked their supply of boogie boards but found nothing terribly appealing...and don't even get me started on the clothes. While I have grown up in what may well be considered a surfer's paradise, I adamantly refuse to support its label-happy accompanying fashion. Flimsy, overpriced junk...but I digress.
Both my father and my sister's bf had better luck and used up nearly all of the store credit; the former of whom may be going back for a custom surfboard.

Afterwards, rather than face eastbound rush hour traffic on the way home, we headed to my aunt's place to congratulate her eldest daughter (my 18 year old cousin, the one nearly recovered from Bell's Palsy) on her high school (ahem, home school) graduation. The lot of us went to a Mexican restaurant in Old Town for dinner, where my uncle later joined us.

We returned home just as daylight was taking its final breath and I took a nice, leisurely walk around the neighborhood and through the park. Got back just in time to help my parents install the new horizontal blinds in the front room. I so cannot wait to decorate the house for Halloween & Christmas!

Anyway, I just finished reading Poe's Bon-Bon a little while ago. The intelligence of Victorian wit and humor has always appealed to me more than its modern counterparts.

It has certainly been a day. A fitting start to what will undoubtedly be a busy week. Our friends from KS are returning tomorrow and who knows what we'll get up to?

Hair: Another CWC, this time with Suave green apple conditioner, HE Tousle Me Softly S&C + Pantene/HE blended conditioner. Spray conditioner is the only leave-in; style is a bun.

Etc.: As it happens, I'm typing this between job interviews. The first one was at 11:00 AM by the coast where I always hang out, the next is at 4:00 in the next town over from where I live. In demand. That's how I roll, baby. Roll Eyes

No band practice this week since our out-of-state guests are back. They/we are going to a car show tonight.

Anyway, that's all for now. I'm tired & have a headache. Need to rest a little before I have to leave again. Ciao!
