Our hearts go out to all those who are suffering from the throes of Hurricane Sandy, especially in my old stomping grounds of Long Island, Tom's River and the Delaware beaches. You never leave our thoughts and we know your outstanding fortitude will pull you through this horror as quickly and valiantly as possible.
As for how the LongLocks studio was affected, though we did lose our electricity for a couple days, we thankfully emerged relatively unscathed. We lost lots of big branches but none of our trees, and we are extremely grateful that was the extent of our damage. Thank you so much to all those who reached out to us in anticipation of the storm and her predicted path, you guys are angels!

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, it is likely we will be incommunicado for what is increasingly looking like what may be several days since we apparently will be taking a direct hit. We lose our electricity very easily here so it's pretty much a sure thing that Sandy will be putting us in the dark, especially since the area power companies are now warning us to be prepared for as much as a week without electricity. This won't affect the boutique at all (the LongLocks server is out west) but obviously it does mean we won't be able to respond to email until our electricity is restored. In fact, if the "pre storms" we are expecting Sunday are as bad as they are suggesting, it's likely we'll lose power before Sandy even makes landfall.
Good luck to everyone within Sandy's striking distance, please stay safe, and by all means take this storm very seriously. And please don't forget your pets!

I consider the discovery of Public Radio Remix (PRX) to be one of the most important and certainly most enjoyable things that happened to me in 2011, I feel that strongly about it, and it has essentially become the soundtrack to my life. The PRX site defines the station as:
"...the best of public radio on shuffle.
Remix is a new format for public radio that presents curated, smart, creative spoken-word programs, amazing podcasts, cool ideas, fascinating interviews, found tape and intriguing sounds.
There is no traditional host, per se, although you’ll hear clever and smart interstitials and program announcements.
