Dear Hair Diary,

Today I went to the Bluk Barn to get some birdseed for my budgies.  There they sell natural products, soap and EO's.  So I picked up some Swiss Naturals Sea kelp conditioner.  Saw some Jojoba oil but it was way too pricey toyed with the idea of buying some liquid Castile soap.  I used it as shampoo years ago and kinda liked it, but budget would allow so I skipped it for now. 

This evening I made a hair pack from avocado, banana and  honey mixed with some Amla oil.  I made the pack and put it in and wrapped my head in cling film and watched TV for about an hour.  Rinsed it out and shampooed.  When I got out of the shower I freaked!   There was little bits of avocado all stuck in my hair like nits. Trying not to panic I went and rinsed and rinsed but it would not move  ???  My hubby said to let it dry then comb it out.  I said umm... no and put some more Swiss condtioner in and then did another rinse.  This time it all came out, thank god!  Phew! well my hair does feel sooo soft from the treatment.  Must rinse longer next time I found the cold water rinses to be mind numbing, but I guess I will get use to it. 

Would love to get my end trimmed but I'm afraid my old hairdress will not listen to me (as usual) and do something dumb.

I've been trying to get hubby to cut my hair but he's afraid he would mess it up.  I have long bangs in the front and I don't know if he can figure out how to cut them.  As for cutting it myself I could give it a go, mined my hair is only 15 inch long so it's going to be hard to do without help.  I'll keep ya posted  8)

Dear Hair Diary,

I found some old wooden hair toys I have had for years and refinished them.  One was given to me from my hubby, the other from his grandfather, who hand carved it.  I sanded them down and the oiled the wood.  The one from my hubby is a large oval "roach" shaped one he got at the "One of a Kind" craft show.  The one from Grandpa Axle is a hair buckle type.  His wife, btw, was the one with floor lenght hair of which was only grey on the top!    Many moons ago when I started dating my husband the first thing he ever bought me was a leather hair clasp, I still have it.  It looks like a native ponytailer.

Been sick lately and my poor hair looks like crap   I just been keeping it in a ponytail and out of the way till I can wash it.  I caught my cold when I went down to the marshy area in the local park to pick nettle tops.  I came back soaked.   Must get the prorper gear to go down there.  The river had overflowed due to the rains we've been getting. 

My newist project is to make a snood based on the one I saw in the movie "Everafter"  Got the idea from another hair sight I lurk on.

Well my bunny and I are waiting for a TV delivery.  Poor little sod has to be kept in the bedroom

Dear Hair Diary,

I got off my bum lastnight and made the pillowcase.  I used the satin lining from and old coat, reduce, reuse and recycle!    My hubby just had to help with the sewing, two people and one sewing machine do not mix.   Notwithstanding we got it done and it feels so nice to sleep on!    The felt backing was great so the case did not slip off the pillow.  And it had a pocket in it so I left it there and put a lavender/rose herb bag in it.

Dear Hair  Diary,

I am happy to say I am feeling alot better now and my hair is beginning to behave.   I used the anit-frizz CO treatment on my hair and it loved it!  I also made a mister of lavender and rain water to mist my hair during the day.  Hubby's been playing with my hair alot now.  He says since I've been coming here my hair has looked and felt very nice and was surprised to see that it doesn't tangle anymore! 8)

Dear Hair Diary,

Went shopping lastnight and found a shampoo bar at "The Bulk Barn"  It says shampoo and co bar and has all natural ingredients including aloe.  I think I will try it later.  I also got some VO5 CO that was on for cheap at the Bargin Shop.  I've been wanting to try a CO wash.  But the best thing was I went to the park by my house where I pick Nettles and found............Horsetail growing there!!!  I was so thrilled I picked a bunch and brought it home and put it on my herb frame to dry. It was growing right with the nettles!  My hands got covered in Nettle rash ( I usually were gloves) but some homemade herbal ointment helped with that.   All these years and I never saw Horsetail there!!  My hair loves Horsetail!  Yippie!!  Well I'm off to find a recipe for Horsetail shampoo.  I know I saw one somewhere!!

Dear Hair Diary,

Oiled my hair on Sunday.  I'm still using the poo bar and my hair doesn't get dirty as fast, this is good!  Been practing braiding.  I made up a mist of Rosemary, Horsetail and Sage, very strong and have been misting once a day.  Sad news, I might be loosing my internet account soon.   My provider is being a pain.  Not to worry I'll find another one.

Dear Hair Diary,

I did a deep co treatment yesterday.  I use mayo, avocado and honey.  The weather's been so hot that the mixture kept drooling down my neck!  I kept it on for and hour and a half then rinsed and shampooed. Hair felt great! 8)
I usually braid my hair for bed but the other night I tryed a bun but found it made me sweat something awful!  Been working on a pair of willow hairstix.  I got the branches from a tree on my property.

Dear Hair Diary,

It been so hot lately but thankfully it rained yesterday. What a down pour!  I ran outside in my bathing suit and enjoyed!!!  8) My hair was in a french braid and I though oh no I'm going to have a major tangle when I take it out.  Ah not so!  I took out the braid and put my hair in the new twist towel I just got and it was fine!  I picked up some Alberto CO last night while shopping.  I got strawberries and cream. My hair likes the CO wash method.  When I was using the Danbur shampoo I noticed I had to wash every three days.  With the CO wash I can go a week, same thing for the poo bar as well.  I just don't know if the CO will take out my oil treatments? ???  We shall see!

Dear Hair Diary,

Been doing CO wash about once a week now, no greasies!  I made a new leave in mist for my hair.  I got the recepie from another board: it has rainwater, vegetable glycerin rosemary EO and sweet almond oil. It made my hair very soft and helps with the dry ends. I am not experimenting with amounts added to the water.  I started with 2 cups of rainwater to 1/4 tsp glycerin and almond oil to 5 drops of Lavender CO. (I don't have any rosmary co).  So fair so good!

Dear Hair Diary,

Last night I went to the Bulk Barn to get some bird seed.  The BB has lots of vitamins so I looked for Biotin and found it!   Hubby went into overprotective mode and wanted to know what Biotin was.  After reading the bottle he was happy, I explained it was for my hair but you know now thye have to read the bottle   Found the neatest thing at Pet Value, Matrin rabbit food for adult bunnies!  My bunny is 12 years old and still quite spry! I wonder what he would think if  he knew he was getting seniors chow?

Got my new Mastex heat cap yesterday and gave it a whirl.  I used amala oil as the treatment. My hair came out great (thought not a great thing to do on a hot day)   Been playing with different do's and drooling at some really neat stuff on the net.  Would love to try Camelli oil on my hair.

It's Canada day and hubby had to work (good, he's in the dog house right now )

Dear Hair Diary,

The other night I tried EVOO and loved it!  I bunned up my hair and slept with it.  I changed my pillow cases so they would not get ruined.  Wow my hair just drank the oil up!  I expected a greasy mess but no.  In the morning I washed, COed and ACVed.  May hair really loved this treatment!!  We went to Carabram yesterday and had lots of fun!  Carabram is my towns mulicultural festival.  They have pavillions set up at highschools around the neighborhood featuring food, dance, shopping and history of different countries around the world.  This year we have The Caribbean, Croatia, Germany,Hawaii, Holland, India, Ireland, Macedonia, Philippines, Poland and the Ukraine.  I have the Caribbean and Poland across the street from me!  I went to the Caribbean and bought a handmade hair buckle made from a gourd!

We had lots of fun and will be going to Hawaii and Macedonia later today.

Dear Hair Dairy,

I got my Camillia oil today in the mail, it was shipped so fast, it only took a week from Japan!  This stuff is awesome!  I washed my hair then applyed the oil and let my hair air dry.  My hair is soooo soft and my curls looked defined and shiney!  And best of all my hair is NOT greasy or heavy!  I cannot say enough about this oil! Turely a hair saver!!  I put some on my face in place of my regular mosturizer and it feels great!

Dear Hair Diary,

Whew!  What a week!  I was so busy working on my car to get it ready for the Canadian Volvo Club car show which was yesterday.  While working on the car I kept my hair up and in a dew rag to protect it.  I still find the camillia oil is working it's magic I did the brown suger scrub the other day and it was alright, a bit messy.  I loved the Natures gate condish.  I got the Rainwater herbal henna one.  I also like that its biogradable and ph balanced. I got my Zori sandles from Japan the other day and there a bit too small   So hubby is going to alter them for me.  I also got a pair of wooden Geta at a chinese market. I love the sound they make when you walk!  Hopefully I'll get the hairsticks in the mail today

Dear Hair Dairy,

I won some more hairsticks on e-bay.  One is very old and I'm not sure how to wear it.  I will post a pick when it arrives.  Tomorrow is deep condish day.  I was thinking of mixing avacado  with coconut milk.  I've had the avacado for a while and need to use it.  Then I'll go under the heat cap.  I know my hubbies going to laugh but he loves how soft my hair is!

I bought somew liquid Silica gel lastnight at the bulk barn.  Nothing tastes as gross!! Okay maybe Sea urchin Sushi    Well I got on the Jojoba bandwagon.  My hair likes it so far.  I can see alternating it with the camillia oil.

Dear Hair Diary,

Went shopping at SDM last night.  I needed more Lise Waiter face powder, managed to dodge the cosmetics lady (huh, they were never as fast with customers as I was).  I got some more flowered hair clips and some Shea butter.  I had seen Anais's recipe and thought I want to try this!  I got the yellow unrefined shea.  I thought man this is greasy then I put some on my skin and was delighted that it just soaked in!  My hair is acting strange, I think I used to much jojoba last time....  My budgie is on my shoulder right now and he singing so softy to me and nibbling my ear, he's so cute.  His name is Scoot, he's a soft blue and white.  Well its off to breakfast!

Ichiroya? The kimono they have are gorgeous, and there's very detailed pictures of the designs and the places that might have small stains on them (many of the kimono are vintage). If I had the money, I'd get a furisode from Ichiroya.

I can't stand snipers on eBay. I'd cry too if someone outbid me with one second to go in the auction. Thanks for reminding me about finding kimono on eBay. I looked up furisode and was shocked at how inexpensive some of them were.

Good luck with the obi! I'm glad the site has good pictures. I would get lost without them.

I loved it the first time I felt my hair on my back!    Congratulations - sounds like it's getting really long.

Dear Hair Dairy,

I won a Michiyuki from e-bay the other day. This is a little coat worn over Kimono. 

I also got my Obi for the Omeshi (red Kimono) and have been practicing the different ways to tie it.  There are 300 ways to tie and obi!!  I managed to get a halfway decent bow so far. I'll be wearing the Omeshi for Christmas this year.  My hair is getting long!!!!!!  Yeah!!!  Put in EVOO last night and I'm off to wash my hair.

I once wore a chinese dress to a x-mass party too!  I plan to were my red kimono for X-mass with family.  Then once my fav Japanese restaurant opens up again I will wear my purple kimono and take pictures in the traditional rooms they have there.  That will be cool!!! The michyuki jacket is to be worn over kimono but I can still use it without.

Cynde Thanks!  I am not going to displays these as I have no room on my walls!   I keep them in a draw wraped in rice paper.  I heard the best way to clean them is drycleaning.  What I was told to do is before wearing them to hang them up and air them out.  I put them on a long pole and hang from the ceiling by a window.  When I got them I did this as well.

Chilliepepper - Sure thing!  Hey you can get one on e-bay!  Mine was only $40 bucks.

Lisabelle!  Try mixing water and EO (lavender or peppermint are my recommendations but whatever you've got on hand), put it in a sprayer and spray your sheets.  Bugs HATE eos!  I've used this when travelling overseas when I didn't know the sleeping conditions-gives a nice scent to fall asleep to as well as kept me bite free.  Couldn't say the same for others...

Ick, how big are those spiders? I hope they're not really huge. When my parents first bought the house, they had huge cane spiders that--including the legs--were the size of the palm of your hand. I hope the EO mix does the job.

Yes, cane spiders are freaky. I don't see them in the house all that often, but I did have to kill one in the hallway last month. Mom's afraid of spiders so I have spider-killing duty. I think centipedes are worse. I can't stand them! Sometimes they crawl into the house and it's just eewww!

Dear Hair Diary,

Wore the bun scarf today and am still loving it.  Been praticing tying my obi and trying different do's.   Will do a deep treatment with heat cap on Tuesday.  Tomorrow I have to see Mum for her birthday, got her a bottle of "Pure Posion"  perfume and a  DVD of the movie "Everafter"  I love that movie BTW!  Mum goes to Sweden and then to England the first week of September. I hope she can get me some Hair Scoos while she's over there!

Dear Hair Diary,

Yesterday was Mum's b-day and I managed to rack up!  My SIN gave me two hair wraps she had purchaed at the Ren Fest last year and Mum had finished my bun covers.  Today bunnies goes to the Vet.  Mum let me borrow her cat tote and I placed one of bunny's blankets in it.  Mum gave me a lecture about not spending too much money on bunny and said he wasn't worth it.  When I got home I cried But hubby said don't listen to my Mum and I'm not. We'll got to get hubby off to work....

No one looks forward to losing a dear pet, but the reality is their life-spans are shorter than our and we will see many of our pets die.  I'm sure your mother knows how much you care for your bunny and just wants you to be aware of this reality.  Spending more money than you can afford to keep a pet alive for just a few more weeks, may not be the most humane thing to do and you may need to make this difficult decision.

I hope that whatever the problem is with your bunny is not serious and you have many more years to enjoy each other.  But if that is not how things are to turn out, you have my sympathies and  understanding.  Good luck at the vets.

Today I wanted to do a run down of what products work for me so far.

I think when it comes to the condish I will need something stronger for the winter, as it is so dry up here.  In the winter I sleep every night with a warm air humidifter.  When I was by Mum's I noticed that my SIL's had such dry hair!  Don't want to wind up like that!   
Oh man... the rag weed's out and it's allergy time! Pass the tissues!!

Materials Needed
Small amount DMC Traditions Size 10 Crochet Cotton. Lavender #5211
Medium size Goody Brand hair Elastic
Size 6 Steel crochet hook
Gauge First rnd is 3/4" diameter.
Finished Size 3"diameter.
Skill Level Beginner


If you need to make the bun cover bigger, you can increase the number of rows just before adding to the elastic. And you can use a bigger hook. A size 5.
Instructions
RND 1: Ch6. Join w/slst to first ch to form ring. Slst into ring. Ch3, (yo, insert hook in ring, draw up a loop, draw through 2lps on hook.) Rep bet () one more time, then yo and draw through last 3 lps on hook. Bobble Made. Ch2. *Rep bet () 3 times then yo and draw through all 4 lps on hook. Bobble Made. Ch2. Rep from * 5 times more. Join w/slst to top of first bobble made.
RND 2: Slst into the first ch2 sp. Ch5. Dc in same sp. Ch2. *Dc, ch2, dc in next ch2 sp. Ch2. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch5.

This next part is a little tricky. You will be adding the elastic. It will have a woven effect.
RND 11: Hold the elastic behind your work. Ch5. *Dc in next dc behind the elastic. Ch2. Dc in next dc in front of the elastic. Ch2. Rep from * around. This may not come out evenly. Don't worry about it, it will not show. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch5.
RND 12: Ch5. Dc in next ch2 sp. Ch2. *Dc in next dc. Ch2. Dc in next ch2 sp. Ch2. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch5. Fasten off and weave ends into work.
You can decorate it with a ribbon if you like.
NOTE: If you do not want to use the elastic, you can use a ribbon in the 11 round instead. Just weave it through and tie it on. It may work better this way anyway.
Also if you want to make this longer, you can increase your number of rows worked in rows 6-10.

AWSOME!!  Thanks for the instructions!  I'm going to look for my crocheting stuff tomorrow.  I think I have some gold floss I had for an old project that I can practice with before I use "the good stuff."

Juri, crocheting came easier to me than knitting.  I bet you can pick it up easily.    When you first start off, you learn three stitches - almost anything crocheted is made up of combining these stitches in different patterns.  What takes time is learning how to make your stitches not too tight or loose. 

Here are some pages that can start you off, but it's easier than they make it look.  If you can find someone that can show you in person, that would be even better

Have you tried to make cranes? I have such a hard time getting them "perfect" looking. There's usually edges that don't match up or the underside of the paper is showing in places.
